Manager's Update

January 16, 2010   Ole man winter has hopefully settled down a bit. Snow, snow, and more snow has been the order of the day since mid December. The well below normal temperatures have also been around way too long. We are completing the scheduled repairs and upgrades to the camp. This should be done in the next couple weeks. Time to start thinking about the 2010 summer season. It looks as if we are going to be very busy. I wanted to let everyone know we have only one week open, June 27-July 2, if you or someone you know needs a camp week, please send them our way.  More to come later, Larry

March 10, 2010 The cold and snow is finally over (we hope), there were several weeks we could not even get to the camp because the snow was so deep. Brandon and David have started to get things in order for our 2010 season. We will know after they make a complete inspection of the camp if we had any serious damage.
April will start out very busy we have meetings with the Board of Directors from The West Virginia Envirothon and Kamp Kno-Koma. The Envirothon is in late April and Kamp Kno-Koma is in July. We are very excited about both of these events. I would like to remind everyone about our Mothers Day Steak Dinner. This year we have partnered with Greenbrier East High School Band. They will be selling advance tickets for the dinner. The proceeds from the advance ticket sales will help them fund their 2010 Band Camp. Please purchase your tickets from a band member and help both organizations. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12, kids under 6 as always eat for free. Dinner will be served from 11am-230pm, Mother's Day Sunday May 9, 2010. Please stop by and enjoy a great meal.

April 27, 2010 The 2010 West Virginia Envirothon was a huge success. we had over 180 young people at the camp for this years event. I believe everyone had a great time. The weather could have not been better. Our thanks to all for making this event such a success. Pictures to come soon, please check our photo section. Don't forget our Mothers Day Dinner, May 9, 2010. Bring mom out for a great dinner, and some good ole time fun. See you soon.

May 12, 2010    Our Mother's Day Dinner went very well, great weather and a good number of folks had dinner with us. If you have not attended this event you need to give us a try in 2011.

July 24, 2010    Camp Kno Koma is gone! 200 plus people and equipment gone, almost as quickly as the set up camp. The only remains are the patches of shaving cream in the field from the shaving cream battle Friday afternoon. It was our honor to have this group with us this year, they have reserved the same week for 2011. More pictures to come in the next few days. All of us at the camp look forward to 2011, Tomorrow July 25, Greenbrier East Band will start their week with us, also will have a few folks with the Greenbrier Classic with us. This should be a great week also. Summer is going by too fast.

July 25, 2010 Greenbrier East Band will be with us this week, again should be a great week for the members as well as the staff. We look forward to their arrival each year.

July 31, 2010   It is hard to believe the week is over, Lord Botetourt will be in on Sunday, August 1, 2010. Chris and the crew always bring a great deal of excitement to the camp. I have been told that they have a large number of new members this year. That always makes for a fun week.

August 8, 2010  Lord Botetourt Band finished their Camp on Friday August 6, 2010, I do believe everyone had a great time. I know several of the staff were very happy to see he new beds. Friday morning the band had their new 2010 field show ready for the 2010 season. All of the parents got a preview Friday night when the group arrived home. I have to compliment the Sr. Girls for the decorating this year. Their Lodge was very nice. Pictures in the picture section. William Byrd Band will be here later today to start their week of band camp. Glad they could be with us this year.

August 11,2010   4 Days into William Byrd's camp and they are still going strong, I do not believe these young adults ever run out of energy. We appreciate the compliments on the food. All of the staff at the camp work very hard to make sure we serve good quality nutritious meals. Enjoy!!

August 22, 2010 Salem Band arrived today, as usual they were well organized and very focused. Trucks were unloaded, the 3 buses were unloaded, the field was organized, dinner was served, then on to the grind.
Lots of field time, lots of practice, lots of sun screen, lots of water, more practice, did I mention bug stuff?. I think you get the idea, these people were here to work and work they did! Pool time was limited to Friday afternoon for about an hour. Their talent show was outstanding again this year. The seniors
walked the field and rang the bell for the last time on Saturday August 28, this is truly an emotional time for all. I have been out of High School 41 years and I had a tear in my eye watching this tradition. Marsha and I are planning to attend Salem's first game on September 3, at Salem. They play Lord Botetourt, so we will be able to see to our bands in the same visit. The busses arrived for the return trip, things were loaded. Everyone left home, It has been 4 months since the camp was this calm, it is a good calm. We all can start planning our 2011 camps.
